The Central Park Condominium Strata in Victoria, BC is a four story building with 64 suites built in 1977. It has an entrance way, hall lighting and laundry services that all fall under the building’s common loads. Their goal was to use a PV system to significantly reduce their common area electrical needs, and showcase the potential for solar electricity in condo buildings.
To maximize the solar production within their budget HES used Hanwha 245W solar modules. Sixty panels were installed on the flat roof using a ballasted mount that avoided roof penetrations. Online performance monitoring was added that shows the client total energy generated by the roof top system.
The Strata’s Bruce MacKenzie successfully demonstrated that PV can be added to a condo with benefits going to the strata owners and the environment. The installation paved the way as a demonstration of how condo owners can take advantage of solar.
